I’ve more, much more, to say on today’s events in London but I hope you’ll excuse me if I take a little time to compose my thoughts.
There is one thing I do want to say, just for the record.
Today, when the mainstream media’s online presence buckled under the weight of event, it was British bloggers who took up the slack and kept the world informed of what was happening in our capital.
Today, while the mainstream media dithered over the question of who might be responsible for this atrocity, it was a blogger who was first to post a translation of a claim by an Al Qaeda-linked group that it was behind this heinous attack and it was British bloggers who picked up this story and told the world of its existance.
Today, on the few occasions that anger threatened to turn to intolerance, ignorance and hatred, it was British bloggers who took up the challenge and faced it down, who refused to take the easy option of blaming an entire community for the actions of an evil few and stood up for those most important of all British values, tolerance, fairness and justice.
Today, in the face of adversity, it was the British blogosphere that rose to the challenge of keeping the world in touch not only with events in London but also the feelings of Londoners and of the British people.
It was British bloggers who demonstrated to the world that the British people remains as calm, solid and resolute in face of terrorism as we have ever been and that we do not bow to tyranny - ever.
British blogging came of age today - let no one have any doubt about that.
