…who struggled to get the concept of irony.
Just spotted this post over at Harry’s Place:
Was he right?
“Contrary to popular theology, there is nothing that produces as much exhilaration and zest for living as an ugly, protracted, bitter-end vendetta that rages for years and comes close to ruining both sides.”
–Old-fashioned investigative reporter Jack Anderson, who died SaturdayI don’t know if it’s true, but it would help explain a lot of the behavior I’ve observed during my life.

Jesus fucking-H Christ, Gene - you write for a blog which is rarely anything more than an ‘ugly, protracted, bitter-end, vendetta’ against Galloway, Respect, the SWP and anyone or anything left-wing that has anything remotely positive to say about Islam or which has the temerity to doubt that invading Iraq was anything but the right thing to do and you’re wondering whether Anderson was right?
Nevermind ‘…it would help explain a lot of the behavior I’ve observed during my life’, it help’s to explain the existance of your fucking blog…
Talk about not seeing the wood for the fucking trees!

Shorter B4L: HP shouldn’t be shut down by the government (point a); in any case, they’re *right* and *justified* because Galloway is EVIL!!!1! (point b). So stop being so nasty (”come off it, mate”).
Comment by Phil 12.19.05 @ 9:27 amI don’t think I either suggested (a) or expressed any particular opinion on (b) - Galloway’s a twat anyway.
Merely pointing out the irony in a blogger from HP observing the vendetta tendancy in others but not in themselves despite being amongst the foremost practitioners of ‘infinite monkey blogging’ - if you repeat it often enough you’ll eventually bore your opponents into submission - in the UK.

Come off it, mate, (a) freedom of speech and all that, and (b) who’s criticising Galloway/Respect/SWP for being ‘too’ left-wing or for being positive about Islam? HP’s cynicism about Chavez might (an I mean, might) be a little premature, but I can’t see any reason for HP not to jump on the Galloway/Respect/SWP loudhailer, given their view that he’s a dangerous and devious demagogue, a poisonous presence, and that not a peep comes out of it regarding forward-looking, practical left-wing policies. Pehaps when Galloway proposes an economic or social policy that isn’t predicated upon the evil of BlairBush, all sides can have a proper debate on it.
