If ever there was a noble cause…

The Beeb’s Politics Show has been running an online poll, which should have closed (although I’ve just managed to vote) for your ‘political hero’.

Okay, its not the most inspiring list; Kinnock, Clare Short, Shirley Williams, Alex Salmond and Norman Tebbit make up the also-rans, but if you do find time (and they haven’t closed the poll) then spare a moment to vote for Tony Benn - yes, and that means even you Blairites.

Why?

Simply because of the name of the remaining candidate…

Margaret Thatcher.

Come on, even you Blairites know that a vote for Benn makes sense this time around, and you don’t even have to feel guilty about it…

That’s the sort of thing Labour lefties fantasise about being able to say…

Naturally, none of the nominations deserve being considered heroic. Your suggestion of Tony Benn is amusing, though I assume this is based on his unstinting efforts, constantly rebuffed, at being taken seriously. If the poll was measuring effectiveness and commitment, naturally it has to be Maggie.

i can’t take that poll seriously - they missed Bob Piper off the list!
