In the last five minutes, I’ve received a very hot tip that Sandwell Councillor, Gurinder Singh Josan, is the new favourite to be selected as the Labour Party’s Candidate for the Ealing Southall by-election.

Cllr Josan, who currently represents the St Paul’s ward in Smethwick, comes from a solid Labour background - his father was a highly respected local councillor for many years - and in highly regarded in both the local party and in the Sikh community in Smethwick, which has close links to community in Southall.

Since being elected to serve the St Paul’s ward in 2004, Cllr Josan has chaired Sandwell Council’s Select Committees on Young People and Community Cohesion and has taken a very active role in local campaigning against the far right, British National Party.
